Minimum viable profit or product?
Think about that. 3-4 years in development and they are going to rethink their business model, again, without any finished product generating revenue. Their sole revenue stream is attracting beta backers. How many times have we seen this?
By end of closed beta the game will have been in development for at least three years, likely longer given they hit the ground running, and certainly in concept for longer.
The extension of closed beta by almost a year is not to fix minor bugs but to redesign core game mechanics, or so we are told. Heaven forbid this actually just becomes a money making scam.
The truth is, if they haven't nailed down core mechanics like the destiny board system, PvP mechanics, or world sizes, after 3-4 years of development, they're not going to. They chop and change core mechanics to appeal to whiny forum posts instead of sticking to their original vision.
They are not an indie one or two man team, but a small company, with a lot of funding. It is not enough to say "making games takes longer than you think", " it's important to get it right ", or " they are only a small team ". These clichés are not applicable in the case of Albion Online and are not something that should be hidden behind.
