Sony is going to be launching a multi-million dollar marketing campaign to advertise its upcoming PlayStation 2 hard drive (includes Final Fantasy XI as the major attraction) on several forms of media including magazines, television networks (ESPN, Comedy Central, Fox Sports, MTV, USA, Spike TV, CBS, FOX, NBC, UPN, WB, and more), and many online websites. The ad campaign is set to continue all the way until June 2004.
The PS2 hard drive is set to be released on March 23, 2004 for $99.00 USD. Final Fantasy XI will come preloaded on the 40GB hard drive and will also be available seperately (from the hard drive) for $44.99 USD.
In addition, Sony is throwing a costume party for Final Fantasy XI fans who come to their San Francisco PlayStation store (101 Mission Street) at 8:00pm on Mach 22, 2004. Guests will get an opportunity to play FFXI and get a chance to win a prize, as Sony is offering prizes to the two top costumes of the party. The store will start selling the hard drives at 12:01am that night.
